Burgherr: A.D. 1157

Mark Brandenburg

Terms of Use

×

This English version is provided for information only. Only the German version is legally binding.

1. Scope and provider

These terms of use apply to the browser game “Burgherr: A.D. 1157” at burgherr.online (hereinafter “the game”). The provider is Andreas Dortgolz; full details are given in the legal notice.

By founding a house (completing the character creation), you agree to these terms of use. How we handle your data is described in the privacy policy.

2. The game and the alpha test

The game is free of charge. There is no paid content and no advertising.

The game is in alpha testing. This means in particular:

  • Rules, numbers and game content may change at any time, including with effect on existing castles.
  • There may be bugs, outages and maintenance periods.
  • The game world may be reset. All players then start over; there is no claim to the preservation or restoration of a game state.
  • The alpha test may be ended and the game discontinued. Where possible, we will announce this in the game in good time.

There is no claim to participation, to any particular availability or to particular features.

3. Minimum age

The game is for players aged 18 and over. By founding a house, you confirm that you are of legal age. Accounts of minors will be deleted as soon as we become aware of them.

4. The account

  • New accounts are currently created with an access key; there is no claim to an access key. From November 2026, this will be done with a Google account.
  • Each person may hold only one account. An account belongs to one person and may not be passed on, sold or shared with others.
  • Keep your password secret. You are responsible for everything that happens via your account until you have reported misuse to us.
  • Your name in the game and the names of your house and castle must not infringe the rights of third parties and must not be offensive. We may change unsuitable names.

5. The Rules of the March

Whoever founds a house agrees to these rules:

  • 18 and over. Burgherr is a game for adults; whoever founds a house here is of legal age.
  • You play with real people. Every castle on the map belongs to a fellow player, and behind every coat of arms sits someone like you.
  • What you build can fall. Castles are attacked, plundered and taken. That is part of the game, and nobody gets them back.
  • Feuds yes, hostility no. Quarrel in the game as fiercely as you like. We do not tolerate insults, threats or hate speech in the chat (“Botenstube”).
  • A decent name. Offensive names for houses and castles will be changed.
  • One house, one person. No second account, no helper programs, no exploiting of bugs; whoever finds a bug reports it.
  • The March is still being built. Burgherr is in alpha testing: rules and numbers still change, and in an emergency the world is reset — then everyone starts over.
  • Patience rules here. Trees grow back, walls take days, a castle weeks. You play a little every day, not everything in one evening.

6. What players write

You are responsible for messages in the chat (“Botenstube”) and for anything else you enter in the game. Prohibited in particular are insults, threats, hate speech, harassment, sexual content or content glorifying violence, advertising and anything that violates applicable law.

We may delete such content without prior notice. The chat is not monitored continuously; if you see something inadmissible, please report it to mail@dortgolz.net.

7. Cunrat the Scribe

Cunrat is a chatbot in the game that answers questions about the game. His answers are generated by artificial intelligence. They may be incomplete or wrong and are not binding information.

  • The number of questions per day is limited.
  • Do not give Cunrat any personal data you do not want to pass on (see privacy policy, section 7.7).
  • Anyone who insults Cunrat or tries to misuse him or to extract his instructions may be excluded from using him.

Whether and for how long Cunrat is offered is up to us; there is no claim to it.

8. Violations and suspensions

In the event of a violation of these terms of use or the Rules of the March, we may, depending on its severity:

  • issue a warning,
  • change names and delete messages,
  • revoke game advantages gained through bugs, helper programs or a second account,
  • suspend the account temporarily,
  • suspend and delete the account permanently.

In the case of serious violations, an immediate suspension without prior warning is possible. Anyone who has been suspended may not create a new account.

9. Game states and in-game items

Castles, inhabitants, stores, silver and all other things in the game are part of the game. They do not belong to the players, have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged, sold or paid out for real money. Trading accounts or in-game items for money is prohibited.

Whatever is lost in the game — through attacks by other players, through bugs, through changes to the game or through a reset of the world — will not be replaced.

10. Rights to the game

The game, including all images, models, texts, sounds and the program code, is protected by copyright. You may use it within the scope of these terms. You may not copy or distribute any part of it, or operate or read out the game with helper programs, scripts or automated requests. Screenshots and videos of your own game for non-commercial purposes are permitted.

11. Liability

The game is offered free of charge. We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence and for damage resulting from injury to life, body or health. Otherwise, liability is excluded to the extent permitted by law. This applies in particular to the loss of game states and to damage caused by outages, bugs or answers from Cunrat.

12. End of use and deletion of the account

You can have your account deleted at any time; an email to mail@dortgolz.net is sufficient. We may end the use with two weeks' notice, and immediately for good cause (for example in the case of serious violations, see section 8). When the game ends, the use ends for everyone.

Anyone who does not play for a longer period loses their castle so that its place becomes free for others: after 14 days while the castle is at level 0, after 60 days from castle level 1 and after 90 days from castle level 3. The account remains, and you can start over with a new castle.

13. Changes to these terms of use

We may change these terms of use, for example when the game or the legal situation changes. We will inform you of material changes in the game. If you do not agree with a change, you can have your account deleted. We record which version you agreed to; the current version is shown at the bottom of this page.

14. Final provisions

The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies. If you are a consumer, the mandatory protective provisions of the country in which you have your habitual residence remain unaffected. Should any provision of these terms of use be invalid, the remaining provisions remain valid.
